rules & guidelines
General Rules

1. Even though this is an AU game, we expect characters to follow as closely as possible to JKR's canon. A Gryffindor will act like a Gryffindor, a Slytherin like a Slytherin, etc. OOCness will not be tolerated. If you suspect someone is acting OOC, please talk to the mod.

2. This is an 18 years old + game, as there will be adult content featured. Please do not apply unless you are of age. Thank you.

3. There is a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to OOC drama. Seriously, if you have a problem with another player, please contact the moderator and we'll sort it all out. If OOC drama ensues, you may be asked to leave the game.

4. No god-modding. This means, do not act for a character not your own. Do not make decisions for another character. Do not assume another character would act a certain way.

5. As this is an adult game, all manner of character sexuality is permissible, however sexuality must be stated when applying and must remain canon. The mod has final say in this matter.

RPG Guidelines

1. Each character must have a journal. This journal is for first-person journal entries. You may make part of an entry private or private to a certain character by enclosing text with private & /private. Characters may interact through journal comments. All writing in journals and comments is to be done in first-person, acting as if you are the character. Also, strikethroughs are unreadable, appearing as ink blotches, to other characters.

2. All owls, passed notes, common room board postings, etc. should be posted to the main RPG comm: [info]speculorum_rpg with the proper subject line identifying them as such.

3. Threading - third-person RPing - is done in the main RPG community: [info]speculorum_rpg. This is back and forth gaming, done in third person narration.

CORRECT - Harry waited in the bright sun, his Quidditch uniform making him sweat. He checked his watch again. He was supposed to meet Ginny here for practice ten minutes ago. He was late as it was. Where was she?
INCORRECT - I waited in the bright sun. I wondered where Ginny was.

Please use the following when creating an entry for a thread.

Who: Harry & Ginny
When: Saturday, mid-afternoon
Where: The Quidditch pitch
What: a conversation between teammates
Rating: PG
Status: Incomplete/Complete

Look, I have provided a handy textbox for your convenience!

While we encourage threading in the journal, if you decide to thread via an instant messaging service, such as AIM, please copy and paste the entirety of your log in one entry.

4. Please tag your threads in the main RPG journal with the full name of each character participating. If you do not have a tag available, please comment here and I will add it.

5. You must participate in order to stay in the game. One journal entry or one thread per week is what is required. Of course, this is the bare minimum. Keep in mind that the more you participate (journal entries, threads, comments) the more fun the game will be. The mod will do regular activity checks to ensure that everyone is participating. If you have to take a hiatus, please contact the mod as soon as possible so something can be worked out. We all understand that RL can get overwhelming, but we all also want to have a good time and good interactions in game.

6. Your character bio (the part of your application that discusses your character) MUST be visible either as the first entry in your journal and linked directly on your character profile. Also include a link to the game and a disclaimer. For an example, please see this userinfo and the accompanying biography for what is expected. (A cool graphic is not necessary, but it's fun to have.) You do not have to have your OOC info or your writing samples with your character bio, but they do need submitted with the original application.

7. Players are, at the moment, limited to 3 characters a piece. When filling out an application for a second character, you need not fill out writing samples. However, the condition to this rule is that one of the 3 characters (if you choose to play 3) must be an adult, preferably one with plot outside of Hogwarts.

IMPORTANT
8. Please do NOT use specific dates in this game. The month is off from RL month. You may use days (Monday, evening) that correspond to the day in real life, but do not use specific DATES. All important holidays (Halloween, Christmas, Hogsmeade weekends, etc.) will be announced in game. The month/date will NOT follow our real world calendar.

When applying, to show that you have read the rules, please write We'll send you a Hogwarts toilet seat in the subject line.

These rules are subject to change. If anything changes, the mod will notify all players of the change so everyone can read it.

Heya! Could I get a tag for Hestia? (While here, how about one for Frank, too? And I guess anyone else new, since it'd be easier to get 'em done all at once.)
